Before we get started, we still have a few spots open at The ICS for academic sessions 24–25. Head on over to this page for more information. Let’s start our first activity update. Summer Camp: Day 1 at The Indian Cambridge School, one of the best girls boarding schools of Dehradun!
With exams over, students of The Indian Cambridge School gathered together to partake in and rejuvenate at The ICS Summer Camp on May 20, 2024. The summer camp kicked off with an electrifying Zumba dance session, giving children the opportunity to let their hair down, have fun, and learn new things.
This was followed by several right-brain development activities that enhanced the right hemisphere of the brain. We did the maze activity, in which the children concentrated on tracing the patterns on paper using a coin. After that, we moved on to handpan meditation, where children meditated along with music, gaining insights into the feelings of relaxation and tranquility.
Up next was a short lesson about World Environment Day, which is celebrated every year on June 5. Children learned about sustainable development, why it is necessary to care about the environment, and how they can play their part in protecting the resources for future generations.
The first day of the summer camp concluded with a fun-filled handprint butterfly-making activity in which the children painted butter using their hand prints and decorated it with cotton balls and colors, making the perfect souvenirs for the first day of the summer camp.
Summer Camp: Day 2 at The Indian Cambridge School, one of the best girls boarding schools of Dehradun!
The next day, i.e., May 21, 2024, began with the same zest and zeal that were present in children on the first day of the summer camp. We began the day once again with Zumba dance sessions, where the teachers taught the kids some exciting new moves, and they were not far behind either, with students also showcasing their talents and teaching the teachers some new lessons.
The second session of the summer camp was once again earmarked for the right brain development activities, where the children were blindfolded and asked to write on slates using only their senses. This activity empowered the children to showcase their creativity, and we also saw a fine example of camaraderie as they all cheered each other. This was once again followed by meditation sessions, allowing them to reflect on the things they had learned so far and soak in all the goodness of the summer camp.
Keeping in with the previous day’s structure plan, the topic of discussion was the Harela Festival, a Uttarakhand staple in which they participated in germinating seeds in recycled bottles that they took to their home to take care of and water daily.
The final activity of Day 2 was all about creativity in cooking. Children were asked to bring materials for making sandwiches and lemonade. The activity started with kids preparing bread, lathering it up with sauces, topping it up with pre-cut veggies, and finally slicing the sandwiches. The little master chefs prepared yummy sandwiches, which we all shared and ate together while sipping the refreshing lemonade. What better way to beat the heat?
But wait The ICS Summer Camp was a four-day camp. So in this blog, we have covered days one and two. Are you wondering, “Where are the next two days?” Don’t worry, we will cover the next two days in the second blog post in July. In fact, we will do an entire summer camp-themed recap and dedicate an entire blog to this event. Till then, here’s a sneak preview!
