Independence Day Celebrations at The ICS Senior Wing
The Indian Cambridge School, best girls boarding school in Dehradun, celebrated Independence Day with a series of powerful and thought-provoking performances under the theme, “Are We Really Free?” The event, held at the school premises, was graced by the presence of the esteemed Chief Guest, Reverend Patron Dr. S. Farooq Sir, a renowned personality in Dehradun.
The celebration began with a poignant reflection on India’s rich history, once referred to as the “Sone Ki Chidiya” (Golden Bird), and its subsequent struggle under British colonial rule. Through a series of evocative performances, students highlighted the journey of India from being caged by the British to fighting for and eventually gaining independence.
Adding a contemporary twist to the event, a dance performance depicted the current challenges India faces, symbolizing the nation being caged by issues such as terrorism, colonialism, unemployment, inflation, and the widening gap between the rich and the poor. This performance raised important questions about the true meaning of freedom and whether it has been fully realized in modern India.
The program concluded with a powerful performance titled “Bekhauf Azaad Jeena Hai Mujhe,” which emphasized the critical need to educate girls as a solution to the prevailing social and economic challenges. This stirring performance underscored that true freedom can only be achieved when every individual, regardless of gender, is empowered through education. The event left the audience reflecting on the deeper significance of independence in today’s context, serving as a poignant reminder that the journey towards freedom is ongoing and must be pursued in its truest form by ensuring equal opportunities for all.
During the Independence Day celebrations at The Indian Cambridge School, the Chief Guest, Reverend Patron Dr. S. Farooq Sir, delivered a truly inspiring and thought-provoking address. He emphasized the importance of counting our blessings, particularly in being educated and in the significant strides made in educating the girl child. Dr. S. Farooq Sir reflected on how, in modern India, traditional value systems are deteriorating, leading to an increase in broken families. His words resonated deeply with the audience, especially when he recited a couplet:
“पत्ता पत्ता बूटा बूटा, हाल हमारा जाने है,
जाने न जाने गुल ही न जाने, बाग तो सारा जाने है,”
Through this couplet, Dr. S. Farooq Sir poignantly illustrated how we often remain unaware of our true selves, despite the rest of the world recognizing our worth. His address left a profound impact, touching the hearts and souls of everyone present, and served as a reminder of the importance of self-awareness and the preservation of our cultural and moral values.
In the context of freedom, Dr. S. Farooq Sir emphasized that true liberation from the shackles and bondage of our social and economic problems can only be achieved through education. He highlighted how education serves as the key to breaking free from the limitations imposed by societal issues, and how it empowers individuals to overcome challenges and contribute to the progress of the nation. Dr. Farooq’s address reinforced the critical role of education in ensuring that freedom is not just a historical achievement, but a living, breathing reality for all citizens in modern India.
At the conclusion of the event, the Academic Director of the school presented a memento to Reverend Patron Dr. S. Farooq Sir as a token of gratitude, thanking him profoundly for gracing the occasion. In his remarks, the Academic Director noted that Dr. Farooq’s personality is such that it cannot be described in words. He is an epitome of humility, simplicity, wisdom, and grace. The event concluded with the distribution of sweets by the school management to the students and staff, marking the end of a truly memorable and meaningful celebration of India’s Independence Day.
