The Indian Cambridge School, a girls’ boarding school in Dehradun, is back with its monthly series, Activity Round-up. In this series, we share all the recent updates about the exciting activities our girls have been up to in the previous month.

Nestled in the foothills of the Shivalik Range, The Indian Cambridge School is one of the best boarding schools in Dehradun, Uttarakhand, for girls! Its expansive campus is situated in the picturesque garden township of Dalanwala, Dehradun, which is known for the presence of many prestigious schools. The school is located in the heart of Dehradun city, which enjoys the reputation of being the educational hub of Uttarakhand as well as one of the most liveable cities in India.

Let’s start with October’s first activity round-up without further delay. Head on over to this page for more information. For our previous entries in this series, check this page out.

The ICS Celebrates Harela!

On July 15, The Indian Cambride School and The HIM Foundation celebrated Harela with a “Donate a Plant” drive. Harela, meaning “day of green,” is a cherished Hindu festival from Kumaon, Uttarakhand. It is also known as Haryali, marking the new harvest and the rainy season. Students and staff donated plants like litchi, mango, guava, and neem. Mr. Ajay Bahuguna, founder of the HIM foundation, shared that these plants would be planted in government schools that lack trees and greenery.

Cambrites highlighted the environmental and cultural significance of Harela with a special assembly. Our girls from Grades 6 and 7 performed a cultural dance to the traditional song, “Ji Reya Jagi Reya,” depicting the diving wedding of Lord Shiva and Goddess Parvati. They also recited a poem emphasising the festival’s importance and calling to “Save the Environment.”

The event concluded with the school donating saplings to the HIM Foundation, and our Director of Academics, Neelam Ma’am, expressed gratitude to Mr. Bahugana for his initiative and presence.

Handwriting Competition at The ICS!

On July 13, a handwriting competition was organised at The Indian Cambridge School. The objective of this competition was to develop Hindi writing skills among students and to encourage their creativity. Through this competition, not only was a sense of beautiful handwriting instilled in the students, but their attachment to the Hindi language also increased. The students were allowed to write on various topics, and the school’s teachers did the evaluation. They focused on the students’ handwriting, word choices, and creativity.

Certificates were distributed to the students who performed exceptionally well in the competition, while other participants were appreciated for their efforts. We plan to hold even more competitions similar to this in the future because activities such as this will play a key role in not only enhancing the students’ creativity but also their proficiency in the Hindi language.

Prefectorial Board Elections at The ICS

“If your actions inspire others to dream more, learn more, do more, and become more, you are a leader.”

  • John Quincy Adams

This quote perfectly captures the spirit of our Prefectorial Board elections held on July 18, 2024, at The Indian Cambridge School, a girls boarding school in Dehradun. Students from Grades XI and XII competed for roles including House Captain, Vice House Captain (Valour, Devotion, Justice, Integrity), Sports Captain, Vice Sports Captain, School Captain, and Vice School Captain.

The day featured speeches from the candidates showcasing their vision and commitment. Meanwhile, our academic director, Neelam Ma’am, addressed the students, encouraging them to vote with integrity. The election process began with Ms. Sharma casting the first vote, followed by teachers and students. The Indian Cambridge School is proud to provide a platform for future leaders to shine.
