Celebrating the Bond of Love at The Indian Cambridge School’s Maitri: A Mother’s Day Event
Mother’s Day is celebrated every second Sunday in May. It honours all mothers and motherly figures for their love and unrelenting devotion to each of us and our families. The Indian Cambridge School, Dehradun’s best all girl boarding school, organised a “Maitri: A Mother’s Day” themed special event in recognition of the hard work and sacrifices mothers make every day. We brought together mothers and daughters on May 14 for a day filled with joy, heartwarming moments, and competition! But before we dive into the highlights of the day, let’s learn how Mother’s Day began.
When did Mother’s Day begin?
That’s a tough question to answer, but we shall try! Mother’s Day dates back to the Greeks and Romans, who held festivals in honour of the mother goddesses Rhea and Cybele. However, it was not until 1914 that the 28th president of the United States of America, Woodrow Wilson, signed a proclamation designating the second Sunday of May as Mother’s Day. Today, the celebration has spread all over the world.
How did the best boarding school for girls in Dehradun celebrate Mother’s Day?
The Indian Cambridge School’s Maitri: Celebrating the Mother-Daughter Bond was held on our school campus in Dalanwala on May 14, 2023. Maitri means benevolence, loving-kindness, friendliness, and active interest in others—words that we believe perfectly describe mothers.
With just a 100-rupee pass, attendees gain access to a range of engaging activities and competitions. Let’s look at the exciting lineup that awaited our guests:
“Jam Session!” The dance floor was on fire as mothers and daughters tore it up with their mind-blowing moves, bringing the roof down! The kids couldn’t believe their eyes as their moms unleashed their inner dance divas, letting loose and busting out some seriously awesome dance moves. But that’s not all the excitement we had!
Picture this: the “Ramp Walk” was like a fashion paradise, where our dynamic duo transformed into fierce fashionistas, strutting their stuff on the runway with absolute confidence and style. Talk about a show-stopper moment!
To celebrate Indian tradition with a hilarious twist, we had the epic “Put My Bindi” contest. Daughters were blindfolded while their moms guided them to place bindis on a paper face. Cue laughter! It was a riot of fun and had everyone laughing. And let’s not forget our artsy participants. The “Collage-Making” competition showcased their incredible creativity as they made mesmerising portraits.
Hold onto your hats because things got messy at “Pottery Corner!” Attendees got their hands dirty, channelling their inner potters and embracing the ancient Indian craft of pottery-making. It was an absolute blast!
But wait, there’s more! The classic “Tambola” had everyone on the edge of their seats, testing their luck and listening skills. And the “ICS Tower” (JENGA). It was a nail-biting showdown as contestants skillfully manoeuvred the blocks, showing off their dexterity and cunning. It was all about the thrill and excitement!
In our quest to promote a healthy lifestyle, we partnered up with Kailash Hospital to offer complimentary health checks for everyone. Taking inspiration from the awe-inspiring NDA Cadets at The Indian Cambridge School, who performed jaw-dropping “katas,” we wanted to show our younger girls that they can conquer anything with the right attitude and dedication. You go, girls!
Oh, and did we mention the “look-alike competition?” Mothers and daughters went all out, dressing up in matching outfits and trying to outshine each other in the style department. It was a fashion showdown like none other!
In addition, we had a variety of thrilling activities, including shoot-and-win games, hungry doremon, and a football toss. The competition was fierce, and the energy was off the charts!
After all that excitement, our stomachs were rumbling. It was then time to fill our bellies at the mouthwatering “Chinese Corner.” Think delicious momos, chowmein, spring rolls, and other scrumptious treats. Yum!
Of course, we couldn’t let the memories fade away. That’s why we had a fantastic “selfie corner” for everyone to capture their special moments on Mother’s Day. Snap away and treasure those memories forever!
And finally, the grand finale: the award ceremony! We cheered, we clapped, and we presented trophies to the most “Best Mother-Daughter Duo” and the “Best Dancer Duo.” Our heartfelt congratulations and admiration go out to all the incredible moms and daughters who brought their A-game and made this event a truly unforgettable celebration. You rock!
We would also like to extend our sincere gratitude to the teachers, faculty, students, and mothers who made Maitri a resounding success. It’s because of each one of you that this event turned out so special. Your presence and exuberance at our Mother’s Day celebration have given us the motivation to pull out all the stops at our future events.
